ZUU is an album by Southern Florida rapper, Denzel Curry. It is an homage to his hometown, Carol City, and written during a time of homesickness. The tracks on the album are freestyled, so this design takes on the same “on-the-spot" approach. The type was built through an analog process, placed in an impromptu spot, then digitally altered.
The typeface was inspired by the storefront shutters of the Carol Mart, which is the name of one of the tracks. Throughout the album, cars are a common theme. My “freestyle” method of design came when I found a tire track scuff on the wall in a stairwell, then paired that idea with placing a vinyl sticker on a car.
